Subject: Re: Hey Ben and Other Intensive Grazers

The Shell Knob Basin (Southwest Missouri)
we dont plant any endophyte free... only novel endophyte... and we really (other than one or two hill ground broadcast jobs) dont ever inter-seed it into K31...... we always use a smother crop or multi-pass round-up.... Matt never feels bad killing k31 though!... and neither do i if im going to have cattle grazing it.... heck, id rather spray and kill the k31 and let the weeds grow to graze than have a good straight stand of K31......... the ironic part is alot of times the guys around here that use a full smother crop will find that the smother crop made them better summer forage than the K31 ever though about (example graze k31 fescue into the ground first of april... step two.... spray K31 with glyphosate... step three. drill/plant half arse crop of cheap early-group roundup ready beans.... step four spray glyphosate over beans when most little seedlings have germinated and non killed plants have recovered and are ready to absorb a better dose this go around...... step five, strip graze beans and watch cows get fat in the middle of the summer....... step 6... plant novel endophyte fescue the last week of August... (and spray glyphosate at planting if needed) !bingo bango boom! youve got a great stand of novel endophyte fescue with no K31 competition and your cows are still fat from grazing those beans all summer when the fescue would have normally been dormant.... rock on fat cows!... rock on!
