| Post below talks about greasing bearings. How about drive chains on combines and planters? My dad oiled chains on the combine at the start of harvest and that was it. My father in law, whom I last worked for befor buying him out, oiled combine chains every 5 hours of operation and mostly with used diesel motor oil in a one gallon pressure sprayer. After seeing chains last forever and almost never replaceing a sprocket, I now oil chains at least once a day. Makes a mess if you over oil but not bad if careful. The planter gets oiled once a day but with Deere chain lube instead of used motor oil. We used to use new hydraulic oil on chains but quickly discovered we were useing over 30 gallons of oil in a year. needless to say that policy changed a bit. | |
