Coldwater, Michigan | If you do that be sure to use a starter that doesn't contain much Urea. Famous for more Urea are products such as 9-18-9, 8-19-3, 9-19-3. Ones with very low amounts of Urea are 6-24-6, or 3-18-18, and some others. Urea in the seed trench can be death to beet seed. If you are using one of the safer products for you starter the 4-6 gallons doesn't concern me as much as what your nitrogen program is and the application method. The Mustang Max, and capture can mix well if you pay attention. The beets would probably respond better to all of the fertilizer in the seed furrow, but I think from a protection standpoint you would get more from the "Tee Band". At one time Capture was furnishing a seed firmer with T-Band features to apply their product.
Your nitrogen application program will probably make more difference in seed damage than will the starter fertilizer, if you are using some of the safer starters.
