Assuming you know nothing about curling, the point is to have as many of your colour rocks as close to the center as you can after each team throws 8 rocks. To score, each rock counts as 1 point, and you start in the middle. Which ever rock is closest counts 1 point and you keep counting 1 point for each rock until you get to a rock of the other colour. Then you stop and the other colour gets no points. They measure the distance to the 1000'th of an inch (there are special measuring tools) and sometimes there is very little distance between rocks. The lines painted on the ice are not always perfect.

Curling is 1 part skill and 1 part athletics. If you don't think it takes muscle to curl. Those 2 guys sweeping can mean a difference of 20 feet or more in how far a rock goes down the ice, and they will be real tired after a 10 end game. You also have to be able to plan where to put your rocks to make it difficult for the other team to hit them or go around them. Because when rocks are thrown, you give them a bit of a turn when you let them go they move sideways on the ice as they go down the sheet. On the right ice they can move 2 or 3 feet sideways to go around other rocks. Sweeping will make them go straighter, so if you didn't aim right you sweep hard to keep it straight. Throwing harder also makes them straighter. You can't stop rocks though, so you have to guess how hard to through them to get them where you want without them going off the end of the playing surface.
