Are you sure you're killing bermuda or some other grass? 

Here the Austin and Ft Bend county TX DOT boys, spray the highway ditches with a low rate RU to kill or severly stun the johnson grass but leave the bermuda.  Been doing that for years.  I know its RU 'cause wife's cousin is one of the drivers.
