Subject: Crop insurance rant

Amherst WI
I was at a crop insurance, crop outlook meeting tonight. What happened tonight has happened at the last 3 meetings I have been at where crop insurance was discussed over the last 3 years.

They use their "simulator" and they use a APH that is almost 50 bushel higher than the county average to show how great crop insurance is and you how you can't lose. They show how "cheap" crop insurance is for what you are protecting because they are using a yield that is rarely attainable which would significantly lower the price and then they use a 85% or 80% level which is extremely expensive "here", like close to $100 an acre for OU. I have one farm that would fit this simulator and I don't know if it would be the best farm in the county but I would say it would certainty be in the top 10%.

Anyone else notice this at their meetings they attended? I think it is misleading at the very least.
