Subject: Re: Forage Oats

Southeast Colorado
We purchase them at 32 lb. to the bushel here but when you test good oats they will usually test over 40 lbs. Therefore you should be seeding with that in mind to get your proper amount of seeds per acre. Around here I plant around 40 lbs on dryland and 60 on irrigated. We don't fully irrigate any oats though. Right now we are planting a cover crop mix of oats, forage barley, lentils, flax, and collards for a total of about 60 lbs of seed shooting for about 30 plants per square foot.
