NE Iowa | With all the talk on here about using Ascend on corn got me to read the labels and MSDS sheets and do some researching on the ingredients. Ascend is like 96% water with 3 plant growth regulators (hormones) added. These hormones are widely used in the hydroponics and nursery / greenhouse industry from what I can tell so figured I could save some money by making my own. The in-furrow rate of Ascend is up to 6 oz. per acre so for 240 acres you would need:
42 grams of Kinetin
15 grams Gibberellic Acid
20 grams ofIndole Butyric Acid
Mix these 3 in about 11.25 gallons of water
These can be found on ebay and these are the lowest prices I've found. For 240 acres you wound need to buy;
1 of these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/gibberellic-acid-20-grams-90-technical-grad...
1 of the 50g size: http://www.ebay.com/itm/KINETIN-5-10-25-50-75-100-grams-Natural-Pla...
4 of these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Indole-Butyric-Acid-Water-soluble-5-grams-9...
Total cost with shipping would be $145 and make enough for 240 acres with a little Kinetin and GA left for another batch. Does Ascend work? Don't know. Not hard to make and add to pop-up fertilizer. Ingredients only cost $0.60 per acre so I'm going to try it. It all mixed very easily and took longer to clean the jugs to put it in then it did to mix it. | |
