Subject: RID depth gauge wheels??

Are these wheels doing anything besides breaking up sidewall compaction? If the top 1.5" is dry and you can have the perfect down pressure to put those openers at 2", are they necesary? I'm thinking the answer is no. In fact if it stays as dry as it has been, I think they will cause the trench walls to collapse prematurely. I've had good luck with them but that was when it was wet and I was putting down too much force either by seed box being full or springs too tight. This spring I'll have hydraulic down/up force so the guessing game is over (I hope). Just want to see if I'm missing anything before I swap out 24 tires. I am no till by the way. Thanks for reading.
