Personally, I use the NKJV - not because I think it is the "best" translation, but because it was the easiest transition for me, having grown up on the old KJV. In my opinion (as stated in my previous post, I'm not the world's greatest authority on this subject but I have studied it some) "better" translations include, in no particular order, the RSV, NRSV, ASV, NASV, NASV (updated), and ESV. I have intentionally not included the NIV because, although it is not what I would call a "bad" translation, it does reflect a certain bias and is among the idiomatic (looser) translations. |
