The Shell Knob Basin (Southwest Missouri) | They are not hungry becasue they are full!!.... Also there is a very strong chance if you are giving them free choice alfalfa, and its not really crappy, you may have given them all a belly ache.... Prob would take away the free choice alfalfa.... and not grain them real heavy until you get them straightened out... If they have alfalfa, grass haylage, and any type of grain, and they havent been on the same grain for a couple weeks, and free choice of the forage, especially an ensiled grass and non-ensiled legume, youre definetly screwing with their Ruminal pH on a daily basis..!.... Sometimes less is more with starting calves... a good high NDF grass and a higher ph commodity feed that gets most of its energy from digestable fiber instead of starch or fat goes along way in a calf starter ration..... especially if thevy ever been put in limbo , had acidosis, or been bloated before.... |
