Subject: Re: national parks

Franklinton, LA
A few years back we were visiting the Black Canyon National Park east of Montrose, CO. The National Park staff suggested we pay a very modest fee and get a Lifetime Golden Age Pasposrt Card. This is nice because we now get free admission to all National Parks. Like an earlier poster said, the drive from Montrose to Durango, CO is not a National Park but it is a grest drive. We also enjoyed the Durango to Silverton, CO train ride. The Great Smokey Mountian Park is very nice but somewhat crowded in the summer. The park will be more interesting if you can read some background information on the history of the park and Cades Cove before your visit. I would suggest a tour of Cades Cove. We have enjoyed traveling the Natchez Trace Parkway from Natchez, MS to Nashville, TN as well as the Blue Ridge Parkway in NC and VA.
