Subject: Re: My former longhorns

Breckinridge Co. , Kentucky
Calves out of these longhorns were always good thick calves, didn't matter the frame of the cows they were out of which varied from small light framed to some pretty big solid cows. Had 15 cows total and when handling day to day they were as easy going as you could ask for but pen'm up and they could jump like holstein steers, would walk thru a 5 strand fence and were a headache when weaning off calves. They were a mob mentality, just could not keep them separated. I would consider having a herd of them again but only after making some equipment and fencing modifications. Calves would take a little dock, not bad, mostly color issue since alot of the calves seemed to pattern like a old style simental.
