We are looking to put up silage into a bunker for the first time this next fall/summer. We are hoping to make about 800 ton of corn and sorghum/sudan silage. Dad is getting leery of our uprights and unloaders, we are feeding more and looking to speed up the silage process are reasons for the switch. We think for the first year we are going to put a stone pad down, and place concrete block around 3 sides. do this the first year to see on size and if location works before we pour concrete or asphalt.
We have a MX 285 that would work good for packing and gets the least amount of hours on our farm so was looking to put a loader on it to push and pack. Will a loader work or do you need a blade. We like the loader because we could use it for a lot of other things (load piled manure, load manure into trucks to haul farther away, etc). No payloaders on this farm just skid loaders.
Thanks
I wouldn't put up a wall. A lot easier to pack u don't have to worry about getting tractor stuck on the wall. Just pack well and cover. We used to use stave silos also when we milked. We put 2400 ton in a pile and get very little spoiled. Good luck!
