Do not get him to drink from a bucket to soon. There is a thing called the esophageal groove which diverts the milk from the rumen in the baby calf. It causes milk to go directly to the other stomachs. You will more than likely cause scours. I have had the best luck with karo syrup or maple syrup on the nipple. Start with some on fingers and then on the bottle. Probably more to do with o2 deprivation from too long in calving makes them dumb.
