Frenchman St, cheap or no cover for several low key venues with live music where the locals go. Younger crowd, east end of Bourbon St. It's a nice escape from the expensive drinks and drunk foriegners. We liked the WWII museum with Tom Hanks. Took the city tour, graveyards are pretty funky. I thought the bathroom menu at the hotel was a nice touch...........of course I stole it.
