Subject: RE: Hesston/CaseIH tub grinders

Sunnyside, WA
My family is on the second one, first was a Hesston BP25 and current is a CIH 8610. Both the same, just different paint and decals. Have run them on Case 2290, CIH 7120, 8940, 5140, 5130, 5240, and 5250. The only one that had trouble was the 5130, about 100 hp is big enough. Mainly used to chop and blow corn stalk bales for bedding. Worked pretty well and the chopping rate depends on how well the bale feed and how good the hammers are. New hammers will really grind a bale fast. I would think would work fine for sheep.

Never had a problem with pto clutches as long as you tipped the tub up a little so the pto would not start under load. Case 2290 ran it for the first few years and always handled it fine. I always thought it was nice since it self loaded and if it did plug, you just tip the tub up, let it clear, and drop it down again.

I wouldn't be afraid of one if the hammers are ok and the price is right.
