Your chart is not of performance, but price.  I dont have a handy performance chart for the same period, but here is a link:

Keep in mind, the above performance chart in morningstart is not discounted though Y axis is log transformed. 

  Here is gold's performance in 2011 dollars.   Not my chart.  I assume discounting was done correctly.
