But cold air is less humid to begin with. A dry cold is more likely, and more typical than a moist cold, simply because the air holds less water when cold. It works in freezing temperatures, but only to a point. A dry heat is another thing. Because air hold more moisture the warmer it gets, humidity has more effect on how hot it feels. While high humidity can feel worse when cold, once again, when we are talking -40, the air only holds so much moisture, so it can't really be a high humidity -40. It just feels darn cold. Humidity and cold air is more of a factor around freezing or a bit below freezing, An example is when we were in vancouver for christmas one year. It was about 2C at night, and to my wife and I, it was a miserable cold, because it was so damp. It felt more like it was - 10 or so to us...
