Getting out of a profitable enterprise where you can control your own destiny, into one where you are at the mercy of a "contract" written by better lawyers than you have is the definition of insanity. I have a friend who put up two different hog sites a few years ago. The payoff dates keep getting pushed out years and years. The new contracts require huge renovation expenditures. The custom manure application rates have gone through the roof.He says if he lives until he's 80 he might get the buildings paid off. The hog industry went from the "mortgage lifter" to the industry of indentured servitude. I would not go down that road, and I sure as heck would not give up on cows where you are experiencing record profitability to jump into a dysfunctional industry that cannot respond to market signals.
