Subject: weaning fall calvers

SW Iowa, Clarinda
Tossing around the idea of weaning my fall (Sept) calves this week. They (30) have eaten more than a pallet of creep in the past 30 days.....but my thoughts are that they will just require more feed.....at least with the cows they can still bum off their moms...they all get ground hay, stalks, syrup, etc....now....and the calves get creep.
I am Planning on keeping most of the heifer calves...any benifit to weaning off the soon to be steers early? Or simply leave em with the cows for another month or two....just thinking out loud...plan on selling the ones I don't keep as soon as they are weaned, worked, and on their own. I will be culling a couple cows...grass is limited...
Feel free to provide advise. I have only had cows for 5 yrs.
