Lee Co | After the old 400-500 series when they actually made different rows of holes (i.e. 6 for 6 row 8 for 8 row) they went to a more standardized 8 row drum. If you have the number of seeds around and the diameter of the hole required, they are interchangeable. as mentioned above the older bean drums had a single row of 144 holes and the double rows are 240 . this let you slow down the speed of the drum for higher rates (population) also as above I think someplace about 1990 they came out with a dimple between each corn hole to smooth out the bounce of the drop wheels. those of us that had an older planter at the time were able to send them in and they came back as having the extra dimple. no-one ever said if they were new or repunched but they definitly run smoother. with the more standardized 8 row drums they started putting on those rubber bands to help close off the air from the unused rows as well so if you dont use all 8 you either need them or a band of duct tape over each extra row. | |
