NC Indiana | We had guys putting oat/pea and other oat mixes after potatoes under pivot here late summer and averaged between 2 and 4 ton. We seed wheat and/or rye (depending on seed supply and cost) and make hay off of that in the spring. Of course we make ours as baleage to have it off by mid May. MO, you should go into this with the idea that you're either going to chop the forage or make baleage out of it, and if the oportunity to make dry hay presents itself then do it, but more likely, you'll be making wet hay to get the forage off to plant your cash crop. So if you can live with that line of thinking, then why wouldn't you use your land to grow feed for your animals at a time you're not using it for cash crops? | |
