Subject: Barn fire 8 year anniversary

On September 24 2004 we were at Brands chopping corn ,with 100 acers to go we decided to take the weekend off because the corn was a little wet. At 11 pm someone was beating on the door yelling fire.We ran to the barn and the whole thing was in flames.We had dry cows and heifers in the barn that burned and lost 50. We called Stan Bertsch ( local milker dealer) and told him we needed someplace to milk cows. Seven miles away was a dairy that was up for sale that was empty, They had sold it the day before but said we could move in so neighbors and friends moved the cows and we were milking by noon. The only problem was it was a 150 cow setup and we moved in 350.
Stan took us to Wisconsin to look at some parlors and we drew up plans on the napkin at supper and had blue prints drawn up and one month after the fire we started to rebuild. Garvo would off been proud because we poured 600 yards off concrete and poured every day except Sunday until done.
On December 30 2004 we moved the cows back home and the next summer we rebuilt the barn.
