Subject: How coarse to crack corn for cattle?

South cental Ohio
I finally got my new Artsway cattle max roller mill and now I'd like some advice as to how coarse to roll the shelled corn? The book says that the rolls are factory pre-set at .010 I opened them to .040 and it still seems to roll the corn sorta fine- imo. When I open the rolls as far as they will go ( this is like a safety position if foriegn matter gets in the rolls), it rolls the corn about what I think it should be. Should I run this thing with the rolls wide open??? It has the 7 groove sharp rolls in it and I'm just feeding fats out. Thanks if anyone can advise me.
