California/Oregon | 70 people for 3800 acres is around 54 acres per employee. That's pretty heavy on the worker end for us. We're just itty bitty farmers with 1200 acres total of commercial hay and grain with 500 cows and 4 of us do it. On the other hand the large growers around us have more workers per acre than we do...maybe even close to the 1/54 to 1/100. But we're a family farm and we probably are a little more efficient. Could there be a threshold of "efficiency" that large corporate farms cross and just plain need more numbers of workers to counter the lower output of workers? | |
