NW Washington | Tour the USS Midway a retired aircraft carrier and now a museum. Check out Coronado across the bridge and the Del Coronado hotel. There is a nice beach just north of the hotel.
There are several breweries and brew pubs around if you are into artisan beers. Stone Brewery is in Escondido. http://www.stonebrew.com/
They have a great Zoo and there is also a wild animal park north of town where large animal have more freedom to move around.
