Sumner GA, Located in southwest GA, | Thinking 80 with 60 in milk any one time, and do at least some grazing. No land no room, not enough feed and really no desire to be much bigger. I would rather be a smaller, better farm than a bigger farm, I would also be more inclined to divirsify or get into on farm processing as opposed to a large herd, especially as it goes back to not having enough continginious land to grow, at least on my home farm. Would appear a robot is very cost competetive as compared to labor and building a decent parlor, at least numbers I have used. Really not sure how I would end up building it, I am thinking if I didn't use freestalls the only alternative is a lime or sand pack, only good thing is that no concrete and no steel needed other than a retaining wall, could/should be able to pack clay enough to have a solid base. |
