Driftless SW Wisconsin

coyotehunter - 12/6/2012 18:35 how do you like the rock base under the tub and alley way vs concrete or gravel?

I would put a 3-4" layer of limestone "screenings" (real fine limestone around here) over the gravel where the cattle will walk. Screenings over gravel packs down after awhile almost like concrete and gives them better footing.

Also screenings on the surface, after a couple rains and they set, make it easier to scrape manure off when necessary. Sort of a poor man's concrete. Mine seem to leave a lot of manure in the tub.

Is there a scale in the alley somewhere?

beautiful setup.
