NW Central Ohio
Leave it empty. The best way to prevent algae is to buy new fuel. Condensation might be an issue...if you shake the tank up before filling your first tractor next spring. Good fuel tank maintenance would have you draining the leftover fuel/water/sediment before filling it next spring. But in all likelyhood, you won't get enough condensation to reach the suction pipe on the pump...and as long as you let the tank settle before filling equipment, you won't pick up any contaminents. Same goes for tractor tanks...if you leave it set in one place all winter, I can't think of any other time when it would be more appropriate to drain the contaminents off the bottom than before you start it the first time next spring. Have any of you ever seen a fuel tank rust out on the top? No?...I didn't think so, they usually rust out on the bottom....where the water lays under the diesel.
....By the way, most premium fuel will have a slightly different cloud point in the winter than the summer. Might not be an issue with #2 (will pretty much stay the same)..if that's the kind of fuel you usually buy.
