Western Ky. | Since you are much further South than us 1 inch depth might be deep enough for your location, but here in Ky. I like 1.5" to 2" as winter heave/kill can be a problem. We are not far enough north to have much snow cover but temps. can freeze the ground hard enough to heave the wheat pretty hard.
One thing we have found Notilling wheat with a Great Plains drill in corn stalks is, if possible, drilling at 90 degrees from the direction of the corn rows really improves stands. Also there will be much less residue harpinned running at a 90 degree angle to the corn rows. | |
