Northwest Iowa | Remember when you do build, to always go a bit bigger then you first think you will need. Never make your bays narrower then 16' if you will have semi trailers backing in to unload. The driver needs room for swinging doors and getting in after dark. Mine is 32' deep, and a walking floor trailer tends to leave about as long of a pile as the trailer length, so, I end up pushing feed in with loader each time. If you have room, go 40' deep. 16' wide X 32' deep X 16' high holds about 1 semi load of tub ground hay. (24 ton) I can also get about 40 ton of cottenseed in that space if pushed up with loader. 48 ton of soybean meal in a bay and another with 48 ton fine ground corn. Always seem to run out of bays, and mine has 6 that are 16' and one that is 32'. A nice pad of concrete out front is also very nice to work on, with a minimum of 30' is best. More if you have room. | |
