tj, that is what we are doing.  Set 10 ac aside on a corner of the farm to do replicated plots.  Started in 2009.  First year there were 9 different CC , 5 replications, stand counts, root dig, plant height, and some more stuff. Did some hy penetrometer readings on each plot, along with soil tests at 6" increments, down to about 3'.  ( this is baseline, and will do again maybe next year to see the change, if any ) Two different planting dates, also some broadcast, and some drilled.  Field day visits in the fall, and did a root dig in the spring to see the rooting depth of all the different CC.  The plots are 20' wide and 120' long.  The yld monitor on the next crop tells us the yld variability as we cross the plots.

Had help to do the tech stuff from Extension people.  All I did was provide the corner of the farm and at times helped with the seeding.  We just want to learn.  We are thinking of doing this for a couple more years on this corner of the farm.  Some things we want to do on the rest of the farm and some things we have seen we DON'T want on the rest of the farm.
