NE Iowa
The rye will be killed at least 2 weeks before planting the corn. I've also found that adding some 28% to the burndown turns the rye crispy brown in a a couple days. If I seeded red clover the 1st of september by air it would be lucky to get 2" tall by fall and roots would only be a couple inches deep also. The rye grows later into the fall and greens up the quickest in the spring and gives me lots of deep roots to benefit the soil.
