Subject: RE: Double crop wheat/beans in Eastern Sd

I am between Yankton and Norfolk. I tried this exact thing for three years in a row, 08,09,10. It was only 80 acres and was irrigated. Worked fine in 08, combined 75 bushel wheat, then planted beans on july4. They made 27. dollared out ok. In 09 things got later and planted beans on 7-15. They frooze to soon and did not combine them. In 10 we were losing intrest in this project and did not plant the beans because it was 7-9. That was a good decision as they to would have frooze. Our decision is unless you desperately need the straw it doesn,t dollar out any better than single crop beans. It is twice the work and stress. We were told to not shorten up the season from regular planted beans, so we used 2.5 maturaty. Bottom line is you don,t need anyones approval. Give it a try and I hope it works for you.
