| Google M. Bohlke Veneer Corp. They are from Ohio, but have a buyer in NE Iowa. I had the same concerns as you. Had several buyers looking, telling me how I should go with them. I walked the woods with the buyers as they looked at the stand, making comments. I ended up going with Bohlke. Felt comfortable with the decision. I also cunsulted the state forester, and have many acres under their advisement. Walnut is in good demand.
In the past we have also submitted different stands up for bids. To do this, you need a description of the stand with approximate board foot and parameters set up for cutting. Usually this is done with a third party. They put together the bids and mark the logs for sale. They do this for a percentage of the sale, and work with you to improve your stand. This has been successful with up to 5 bids per stand and as much as $15,000 difference in bids | |
