Kingston,Mi | Asking auto owners to rate cars is a about as accurate as the "poll" where the question was "Who won the First Ladies Debate?". There have been studies done where 2 cars of similar appearance (I believe a Buick and a Honda) had all identification and badges removed, the researcher then had random drivers rate the "Japanese car versus the American car" which sometimes were switched so hat the "Honda" was actually the "Buick". Other drivers actually drove the cars correctly identified. The results are predictable, nearly everyone rated the Japanese designed and built car superior to the American designed and built car, whether or not the actually had the correct indentification. Works the same when General Motors car of the same chassis family (or any other manufacturer) are compared, Buick or Cadillac are always far superior to the Chevy that followed them down the same assembly line on the same day at the same hour and were assembled by the same workers using parts manufactured by the same suppliers.
Consumers Report compared both popular american built Sports cars in the 1970's, a 350 Cubic inch, manual transmission Corvette aganist a base 6 cyl. 3 speed Mustang, the Corvette won (wow, didn't see that one coming). | |
