We don't play much volleyball on this side of the river. but I have always wondered, why does one girl always have a different colored jersey?
The different colored jersey is for the Libero, or a "back row defensive specialist". They get to sub in-out of the game without using one of your substitutions, or having tell the refs you are doing a sub they can just swap in/out after a dead ball in play. They can replace a player in the back row only after that player has served in their rotation. Libero cannot play front row. They are usually used if you have a good front row player that isn't very good on defence in the back row, put in the Libero to play D.
