Subject: Grazing wheat

Kingdom of Callaway - Fulton, Mo 65251
I knew I should have paid more attention..................

We have not grazed any wheat for 30 years (I was 12) and I don't remember Grandpa's rules - I do remember how my backside felt if I broke any rules! I now have a fear of sewing machine belts, but that is off topic.

1. How tall do you let it get before you turn them in?

2. How short before you take them back off?

3. How dry should ground be?

4. What differences in fall vs. spring grazing?

Fields are wheat only, no grass seed, sowed in tilled ground behind silage. Fields are fenced with water and average 15 - 20 acres each. 120 momma cows.

I have not decided if I am going to bale the wheat for haylage, just use it as a cover crop before beans, or combine it. Open to suggestions..........
