Subject: Why is forward selling more common in Brazil?

SD/ND/FL
The soybean crop that's being planted in Brazil is estimated to being 47% forward contracted. That seems very very high compared to typical pre-harvest forward sales in the US. I don't have any hard numbers but I'd find it hard to believe that the US farmer forward contracts more than 20% prior to planting. It's my understanding that crop insurance is very limited in Brazil as well. Why is the Brazilian farmer more willing to forward contract?
