| Sounds to me that what you are seeing is 2 different hybrids were planted, one variety in 9 boxes & 3 in another. We use a 16 row planter & plant a lot of our fields with 2 different varities in the planter, 8 rows on one side & 8 rows on the other giving us strips of 16 rows of each hybid. Thgere are several reasons why we do this - 1. is that we can compare hybids over a whole feld rather than just a few rows. 2. Extends flowering & pollination periods. We have seen several times that planting 2 bybids like this will give us a better yield than either of the hybrids will produce when planted by theirselves. 3. When shelled together if one of the hybrids have a low test weight & the other has a high test weight they will average out. Not many elevators pay a premium for high TW corn but all charge a discount for low TW. | |
