Subject: Do you leave a tip when dining at a buffet?

small town Iowa....
I treated mom and dad to dinner today. To me dinner is the noon meal.
We dined at their favorite restaurant which offers a noon buffet for $7.50.
The check was $24.07. I picked up the check and dropped a $5.00 bill on the table for a tip.
Dad picked up this and handed it to me. He said "You don't tip at a buffet".
I eat at a buffet nearly every day for dinner and always tip. But in respect for dad, I put the money
back in my wallet and felt like a cheapskate for not leaving some tip.
Do you tip the buffet?
