Iowa | Alex Karras passed away at 77. I would have only remembered him as Mongo in the "Blazing Saddles" movie. Turns out he had an Iowa connection and won the Outland Trophy in 1957 while playing football for the University of Iowa. He was later All Pro for the Detroit Lions. He had three years on Monday Night Football, and later had parts in several sitcoms and movies.
There are often a lot more interesting twists to a person's life than what there appears to be at first glance, especially if they've been around for a while. Lot's of people I know are like that. RIP Mongo.
