I apologize for my mistake about a lot vs alot. I got the dictionary out while a good friend, who teaches English, was here last evening. I was commended for using a dictionary, even before they knew why. When I stated my purpose, both my wife (English & history teacher), and Jean said "alot" is never appropriate. Jean added even though she sees it in the classroom a lot, it is never appropriate to use "alot".
