Subject: RE: York Nebraska, 1940's

western NY
Our neighbors had German POW's working bunching beans one fall. There gaurd would not let them stop at noon for dinner with the rest of the family and the mother went out and chewed out the gaurds and told them that on there place everyone eats at noon no mater who they are. So they finally let the POW's eat but they had to sit on the pourch and not in the kitchen.

I also know that they worked in town at a pickle factory but never heard any stories about that.

They also had Jap prisioners here and they were used to shovel snow in the city of Rochester and load it on trucks to dump in the river.
