Driftless SW Wisconsin

play in the dirt - 9/25/2012 21:21 Are your Hereford bulls at their mature weight at 2 1/2 years old?

I would assume they are at or close.   my registered bull U070 is almost 4 yrs old and has held at right around 2000 lb since last summer at 3 yrs old.  looking at his gain history I would say yes, they have reached near their mature weight at around 2-1/2 years old (30 months).

Looking back at my records, my previos registered bull, T021 also hit his mature wt (2150)  at about 30 months

You bring up a good point, Matt. if sell retained spring born bulls at say 29 months I can get 2 breeding seasons out of them, sell them at near their max weight, not have to feed them over a 3rd winter,  and still be inder the 30 month age limit.
