| I've got a Delmhorst with an in baler sensor and a probe. I never use the baler sensor anymore, it's just easier to probe a couple of bales when starting. I have a pretty good feel for alfalfa but can be fooled by grass, especially teff. Teff that feels dry to me will still heat in the bale. I guess it's so fine it doesn't cure in the bale as well as coarser hay. The moisture tester also helps me decide when to use preservative or not. I wouldn't want to bale without a moisture tester now. FYI when I bought mine Cargill Animal Nutrition was selling the Delmhorst meters substantially cheaper than any other retailer as a customer service. I wasn't a regular Cargill customer but they were happy to sell me the meter. Might be worth checking into. | |
