I have 15 hours of college math, numerous hours of engineering courses heavy in math calculations and I answered like your son did. So much for that 'edgeumacation' I got from Texas A&M. LOL
IMO the question should have been worded better, something like 'rank the numbers...' or 'arrange the following four numbers...'.
