Here CRP pays more than double the average rental rate. Amounts to about 10% of land values per year. It's pretty tough to compete when your "neighbor" can print their own rental payment. Entire farms of good ground (for this area) are locked in the program. Our county actually had about 35% of farm ground in the program, I think it dropped closer to 25% with this last sign up due to a few people actually wanting to grow something with their land.
