I've only fed silage 1 yr - last yr. On our April/May angusx calves we weaned Oct 1 and started silage Nov 1. I'd guess you might run 12-15 lbs/hd/day as an average - total weight. We mixed a little grain and free choice hay with that though. Can't help you on steins.
